Council Members

Carol Gradwell

Chair of Full Council and member of Recreation, FERM and P&T

I moved to Melton from the metropolis of Southend on Sea, having worked in London for over 30 years. Initially, I was living in the village on a part time basis, but since retiring I now live here full time and love the area.

My background was in Government Audit, so I am a stickler for making sure public money is spent wisely and that we are achieving value for money. I enjoy working with my council colleagues. Fortunately, we are not Political, so we are able to concentrate on what matters to us as locals and making the best of every penny we receive. I am a qualified Government Internal Auditor which can sometimes frustrate my council colleagues when I can’t understand why we need to do something that seems alien to me, but I think they appreciate my input most of the time!

I have also been heavily involved in education for the last 20 years, mostly ages 11 – 19, but also at Primary level. I have been a Governor, Chair of Governors and a Trustee. I was also a legal advocate for children and their parents who were seeking funding to help address special needs. I believe strongly that children only get one chance at education, and it is our responsibility to make sure it is the best it can be. That’s why I have given up a lot of time in the past to work towards this aim.

In 2018 and 2019, I have worked hard keeping the Melton Village Fete alive and enjoyed it immensely. In 2020, I am handing it over to others who will no doubt be just as enthusiastic and hard-working going forward. My thanks to them for taking this on.
