Emergency Plan

Emergency Plan

The Joint Emergency Planning Unit (JEPU)

Local authority emergency planning in Suffolk is organised in a joint unit comprising all of the Suffolk District, Borough and County Councils.

The aim of the JEPU is to facilitate the development, management, support and validation of integrated civil preparedness and business continuity management within Suffolk Local Authorities.

Melton Parish Council works with the JEPU and has developed an emergency plan.

What to do in an emergency:

In the event of any local emergency, if there is ANY threat to life dial 999 and alert the emergency services (Police, Fire, or Ambulance) immediately. If there is no perceived threat to life, but you have information that may help the emergency services, dial 101 (Police).

Further advice on how to prepare for an emergency, including what to pack in a Get Prepared bag can be found on the Suffolk Prepared website.

What will Melton Parish Council do:

In the event of an emergency impacting the parish/community the Parish Council will form an emergency coordination group, when safe to do so and as far as is practicable, to: assess the impacts of the incident, consider the local response, inform and support residents and responding agencies.

Potential causes of Emergency Plan to be operational include:

  • Severe weather, damaged properties
  • Flooding – surface water, tidal surge, fluvial
  • Power outages
  • Evacuations
  • Pandemic
  • Rail Incident
