Improve Air Quality in Your Home this Winter

Burning seasoned firewood at home this winter helps to reduce air pollution and improve your health.

Making small changes can make a huge difference to the efficiency of your fire and improve air quality, both indoors and outside:

  • Consider burning less
  • Only burn dry (seasoned) wood
  • Buy ‘Ready to Burn’ fuel
  • Don’t burn treated waste wood or rubbish
  • Consider using smokeless fuel
  • Check new stoves are Defra approved
  • Always use your stove in line with the manufacturer’s guidance
  • Regularly maintain and service your stove
  • Get your chimney swept regularly
  • Use the correct fuel for your stove and flue
