Pavilion Update

A couple of the regular hirers will be booking additional days starting in September, as their classes have expanded. The only ongoing afternoon availability will be Friday. The term time hires will also resume following a break over the summer.

The Pavilion Out of Hours Working Group has decided to purchase a PAYG mobile phone and cover will be provided on a rota basis by group of councillors.  The out of hours number will be provided to WTYFC, the Forest School and those hiring the Pavilion outside of office hours.

Beresford Drive Play Park

During a weekly play area inspection, it had been noted the inclusive roundabout was rubbing against the frame. Kompan were able to send a contractor out quickly and found the floor panels were not properly aligned with the central bearing. The roundabout has been adjusted and is currently moving more freely. After further examination it is believed the floor panel on the inclusive roundabout had some water ingress. Kompan has decided the replace them and will be covering the cost of the part and installation.

The contractor should receive the new part around the 9th of August and the repair should be within 2 weeks of this.

The UV interpretive board was installed last week completing the play area sign. There have been reports that individuals were trying to push over the board. It is currently slightly loose and action will be taken to reinstate it more securely.

James Richards Circus

James Richards Circus attended the Recreation Ground from Wednesday 26th June to Sunday 30th June and put on 4 performances. Footfall could have been better for them however there were local events taking place over the same weekend that they were competing with.

The office has passed on their gratitude to the circus owners for how immaculate the Recreation Ground was following their departure.

VE Day 80

Thursday 8th May 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day. Councillors are asked to consider if they wish to hold an event to commemorate the anniversary which would include the lighting of the beacon at 9.30pm and whether another roundel should be commissioned.

Tree Warden

No-one has offered to fill the role of Tree Warden. The current Tree Warden has planted an oak sapling as a replacement for one which failed to thrive and it is hoped with the wet weather experienced in recent weeks, the slightly experimental June planting will be successful.

Councillors may wish to consider adding an avenue of trees where the floodlights are sited at the Recreation Ground, following the removal by the tree surgeon.

Transition Woodbridge has fitted some additional protection to the fruit trees (which are already fruiting) to prevent damage from deer and rabbits.

TPOs

Our recent TPO applications have been approved by ESC and the tree surgeon will carry out the specified works during the required timeframes.

A further TPO application has been submitted requesting coppicing to take place in the woodland as part of the Burkes Wood Management plan.
