Reports from Outside Bodies

Burness Parish Room Management Committee – Cllr Gradwell – nothing to report

Melton Trust – Cllr Martin

The trustees met on the 9th July.  At the request of Rev. Paul and the PCC of St Andrew’s, it has been agreed that the Trust Deed will be amended so that, instead of the incumbent at St Andrew’s being an ex officio trustee, the PCC would nominate a trustee who could be the incumbent or another member of the church community.

One of our co-opted trustees gave us notice that she has to resign but will stay on while we look for a replacement.  Another has given warning that she may have to resign soon as well.  So, yet again, we are looking for new trustees.

Other than that, we are halfway through our year and have distributed half our income which, to us, is a good result.

Melton Primary School – Clerk

A meeting took place between the school, Concertus and SCC to discuss the nursery building project last week. The location has had to move due to the tree root protection zone. Concertus/SCC are already talking of descoping elements even though a budget has not been provided to the school and the £1.35m cost was based on a larger and more complicated building.

Melton Messenger – Cllr Brown – nothing to report

Suffolk Association of Local Councils (SALC) – Cllr Gradwell – nothing to report

Suffolk Disability Forum – Cllr Darby – nothing to report

Melton, Woodbridge and Deben Peninsula Community Partnership – Cllr Packard

Natural England has developed proposals for the National Coastal footpath to run from Felixstowe Ferry up the Deben to Wilford Bridge and then back down to Bawdsey. The Secretary of State has now approved the plan.

The main purpose of the meetings is to create an updated Deben Estuary Plan. This may have planning weight when completed. Several groups are working on this update but it will take time. Meetings organised in September, October and December to move the Plan to fruition.

Woodbridge and Melton Society – Cllr Bann

The Society want to make greater use of their website to keep members abreast of events and to use social media to encourage membership interaction and discussion of events affecting Melton & Woodbridge. They are looking to have a volunteer website/social media editor to choose the content and act as a moderator of any social media discussion.

The Society is concerned by the inability of the authorities to keep on top of littering, Graffiti/Tagging and weeds in the wrong areas in local open spaces. They have approached the appropriate authorities who have admitted that they are overwhelmed. They are supportive of community intervention. Many residents privately carry out litter picking and tend to unsightly weeds. Where appropriate, they encourage this for individuals and for formal or informal groups.

Where a problem (e.g. a pothole, graffiti/tagging, illegal dumping) is beyond citizen action the society recommend using “FixMyStreet” app to which our Suffolk local authorities subscribe.

Deben Estuary Partnership – Cllr Packard

Funding agreed as follows:

– £1,400 to Eyke Primary School for development on an existing wildlife area

– £2,000 to Grove Court, Woodbridge for a poly tunnel for ‘growing’

Rachel Smith-Lyte to liaise with MPC on concerns raised about Rights of Way in the area, with a view to signpost concerns to Suffolk County Council.

Climate Advocate/Adaptive Action Group – Nothing to report
