Local Highways Matters

Speed Indicator Devices
The SID was moved to Wilford Bridge Road at the beginning of February. It would be worth considering moving it to Melton Road, Bredfield Road or Yarmouth Road. The office is still following up on the original SID which is back with the supplier.

Melton Road Crossings and Traffic Regulation Order (double yellow lines)
Milestone are still planning to install the lines w/c 25th March.

Wilford Bridge Road Speed Reduction
The TRO was readvertised and the closing date for comments was the 6th March. A decision report is currently being prepared by Highways, for the consideration by the Cabinet Member for Development, Transport Strategy and Waste and the Head of Transport Strategy.

Melton Road Crossing
Highways have been asked to investigate the feasibility of a third crossing near the Spar.

Footpath Clearance
The Ramblers Association undertook some vegetation clearance of Footpath 22 (runs between Valley Farm Road and Saddlemaker’s Lane) on Sunday 10th March. The office contacted the SCC Public Rights of Way team asking for an update on the infrastructure issues at the Valley Farm Road end of the footpath.  They confirmed that it remains outstanding and nothing has happened due to not having the time to commit to the issue. It is not possible for MPC to carry out any infrastructure improvements and it is for SCC to take action. The path needs to be made available on its legal line – the route should run through the property garden. Once that is addressed with the landowner, SCC contractors will need to install a bridge (as well as clear the correct line through the woodland). Should the landowner require stock control structures, they would need to apply for authorisation of those structures. If they are granted authorisation, the structures would almost certainly be (authorised as) gates and would be erected by them at their expense (being their ongoing responsibility). There are also staffing changes taking place and it is unlikely that this matter will be prioritised any time soon.

Recommendations

Members are asked to:

  • Note and comment on this report.
  • Decide if they wish to move to the SID to a different location
