Melton Recreation Ground
New Recreation Ground Sign
The new sign is in place and feedback overall has been very positive. A brace is being created to add some greater stability to the sign.
Flagpole
The flagpole is in regular use with several flags having been flown in recent weeks (Pride, Union, Armed Forces Day, Suffolk and NHS Thank you flags). However it is not the easiest of flagpoles to use!
ASB
Some posters have been removed and the deep-water sign in the woods keeps being dug up. The maintenance officer has re-sited it deeper into the ground. There have been no reports of ASB involving the Pavilion site.
Greenspace Management
A new CGM team has been assigned to us. They have been told that no spraying must be undertaken without prior agreement. There has been a 7.5% price increase to cover rising costs. It is hoped that this can be absorbed within the agreed budget as they do not always carry out the 22 cuts that are budgeted for. The budget and the new team will be closely monitored in the coming months.
Dog poo bins
The dog poo bins have not been emptied as frequently as they should be in recent months, due to staff shortages. They should be emptied on Tuesdays and Fridays. Cllr James Mallinder has been very responsive when contacted and signs have been placed on the bins asking people to use other bins and report overflowing bins to Norse. However, it might be advisable to install a second dog poo bin at the entrance to Burkes Wood as this is the one that is most used. There is £2k in the budget for bins and a dog poo bin costs £195.
Bat Box Event
The next SWT event is taking place at the Recreation Ground on Friday 12th August at 10am. Further details will be sent out through the usual comms channels. The bat boxes will be installed in Burkes Wood and potentially at Hall Farm Road. There is still some money in the budget to run a 4th SWT event.
Field Hire
We have received a request for a company to hold a cricket match at the Recreation Ground at the end of July. I am awaiting details which should be available at the meeting.
Tennis Courts
A user of the tennis courts phoned to complain about not being given additional time outside their hour’s hire to return the key and how the Spar staff dealt with them. As a result of this they have decided not to continue playing at the Melton tennis courts and wished this to be made known to the committee.
Members are asked to:
- Note and comment on this report
- Agree if an additional dog poo bin should be purchased and installed at the entrance to the woods.
- Agree if they are happy to hire out the field for a cricket match at the end of July.
