Hours of Work: 20 hours per week by arrangement, including attendance at evening meetings

Commencing Salary: NJC Scale LC2 (18-23) Currently £29,269 – £31,364 (Full Time) plus pension. (£15.21 – £16.67 per hour) 

Location: Melton Parish Office, 17 Riduna Park, Station Road, Melton, Woodbridge IP12 1QT

Responsible to: Clerk & Executive Officer to the Council

Responsible for: Provision of effective support to the Clerk & Executive Officer and Councillors, responsibility for assisting with the day-to-day running of the Council.

Probationary Period: 3 months

Notice Period: 1 month

Melton Parish Council is seeking a replacement Assistant Clerk, ideally starting as soon as possible. The role, which is mainly office based at 17 Riduna Park in Melton, is for 20 hours a week and will include at least 1 Wednesday evening meeting per month (excluding August and November).

We are seeking an organised and community focused individual to proactively assist in the development, promotion and implementation of the Council’s work. Knowledge of financial systems, planning and/or local government would be advantageous. Candidates must be IT literate, self-motivated with good organisational and communication skills and enjoy working as part of a small team.

Working under the guidance and supervision of the Clerk, duties will include completing monthly accounts, updating the website and social media, clerking meetings, writing and researching reports, managing projects and liaising with contractors and members of the public. There will be an opportunity to study for the professional clerk qualification (CiLCA) and other training and development opportunities in the role.

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential:

  • Good IT skills – proficient in the use of Microsoft systems is essential
  • Experience of finance systems
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to prepare short, well-structured reports

Desirable:

  • Some experience of delivering projects would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of Local Government and procedures
  • Experience of editing websites
  • Knowledge of Melton and the surrounding area
