Conservation Volunteering

Care for the Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Our volunteers are a valued resource, enabling us to carry out important work for the landscape and environment we would otherwise be unable to achieve.Suffolk Coast and Heaths logo

We have Conservation days working outdoors in the beautiful Suffolk coast and heaths from Oct to April and we would love to hear from you.

Most tasks start at 9.30 am and finish at 3.00 pm but if times are different you will be notified. You work for as long as you wish and at your own pace.

Thurs 17th Oct – Improve a Geological Site – Rockall Wood SSSI Sutton GR: TM 302439
Pliocene Forest – clear weeds, mulch, water. In the pits – clear weeds, spread spoil, reveal geology

Sat 19th Oct – Variety of Tasks Recreation Ground, Martlesham GR: TM 253473
Raking sedge bed cuttings, ‘TLC’ for young trees, trimming, litter clearance at this community site

Tues 12th Nov – Variety of Tasks National Trust – Orford Ness GR: TM 433481
Gorse cutting, bramble cutting and raking of grass/reeds. TBC

Thurs 28th Nov – Scrub Clearance – Tunstall Common GR: TM 381565
Clearing trees from this classic Sandlings heath and stacking and/or burning

Tues 10th Dec – Variety of Tasks – Church Field, Waldringfield GR: TM 277445
Gorse cutting and raking off long grass/scything – removing bramble/trees from best areas for wildflowers. Possibly some hedge planting

Tues 11th Feb – Coppicing – Orwell Country Park GR: TM 187408
Coppicing trees and shrubs and building ‘dead hedges’

Tues 25th Feb – Scrub Clearance – Tunstall Common GR: TM 381565
