The gas main replacement on the A12 is progressing well and 560 metres out of the 760 metre replacement has been completed so far. Unfortunately in order to complete the works some overnight closures of the A12 are required.
The A12 will be closed overnight on the following days and times:
Wednesday 13th December – 8pm to 6am – A12 Southbound only between the Woods Lane roundabout and the Seckford roundabout. The diversion will be down Woods Lane, along Melton Road/Hill, Quay Side, Station Road, Ipswich Road to the Seckford roundabout on the A12. An exemption has been granted to allow this diversion. Normally equivalent A roads have to be used for diversions.
Saturday 16th or Sunday 17th December – 8pm to 6am – A12 in both directions will be closed between the Woods Lane and Seckford roundabouts. The official diversion will use A roads so traffic will not be diverted through Melton and Woodbridge.
Resident access only signs will be placed on Bredfield Road, North Hill/Bredfield St to deter vehicles from using alternative routes to the official diversions.
It is hoped that most of the works will be completed by Monday 18th December so all the current lane restrictions on the A12 will be removed. However the Dobbies roundabout will continue to have restrictions until the 22nd December. Vehicles travelling from Grundisburgh will not be able to continue over the roundabout and down Grundisburgh Road and those travelling northbound on the A12 will be unable to turn right down Grundisburgh Road into Woodbridge.
Further information will be shared as we receive it. The contractors apologise for any inconvenience and are trying to limit the disruption as much as possible.
