Letter from 54 Town & Parish Councils regarding Sizewell C

In response to a letter to EDF (dated 9 April) from Suffolk County Council and East Suffolk Council concerning its Development Consent Order (DCO) application for Sizewell C, a joint letter from 54 Town and Parish Councils, including Melton Parish Council, was sent to the Council leaders on 11 May. The key message was that examination of the planning application must be in public and not be digital-only. A copy of the letter is available to read as a PDF:

Sizewell C – Application for a Development Consent Order

On 3 April 2020, EDF wrote to Parish Councils confirming its decision to defer, by a few weeks, the submission of its application for a Development Consent Order (DCO) to build Sizewell C. EDF says that this will allow everyone more time to read the documents through the summer months and then register their interest and submit their views for the public examination phase of the DCO process. EDF is liaising with the Planning Inspectorate to discuss how normal arrangements can be flexed so that communities are not disadvantaged by the current difficult circumstances.

EDF Energy will now be running a Stage 4 public consultation exercise starting on 18 July 2019 and running until 27 September 2019. This will include a drop-in session at Woodbridge Community Hall on 26 July from 2pm to 8pm.

Sizewell C Stage 3 public consultation began on 4 January 2019 and ran to 29 March 2019. The new station would be located to the north of Sizewell B, and would have two reactors capable of generating enough low carbon electricity to supply around 6 million homes for 60 years.
