Message from EDF regarding latest Sizewell C Consultation

Since the close of consultation in December, team members and contractors reviewed the responses and this informed the submission of proposed changes. This is now complete and has been submitted to the Planning Inspectorate, who will now consider the submission. Should they accept the submission it will be published on the Sizewell C page on the PINS website ( Further information can be found in this briefing from the EDF SZC Community Team.

Sizewell C Consultation Response Deadline – 18th December 2020

EDF’s latest consultation proposals introduce a large modal shift in the movement of heavy construction materials, from road transport to rail & sea transport. The extent of the increased and overnight train movements through Melton could have a significant impact on our residents.

Details about the consultation and a link to the online response form can be found on the EDF website. The consultation ends on Friday 18th December.

Melton Parish Council discussed their response at the Planning & Transport Committee meeting on the 16th December 2020 and submitted their final comments to EDF on the 17th December 2020.

EDF Launches Another Consultation on Sizewell C – November 2020

On 30 September the pre-examination stage of the Sizewell C Planning Process concluded. Hundreds of residents, community organisations and stakeholders like Natural England and the Environment Agency have sent their relevant representations to PINS.

The DCO application included proposals for materials to be delivered to Sizewell C by road, rail and sea. However, one of the issues people and organisations like East Suffolk and Suffolk County Councils continued to be concerned about was the number of HGV deliveries forecast in the transport strategy. EDF was also asked to provide more reassurance about safeguarding the local environment.

EDF has responded to those views and, with the benefit of more experience from Hinkley Point C, will now be consulting on some new proposals to further reduce the impact of construction on local communities and the environment.  EDF’s  updated briefing summarises the next steps for the Sizewell C Planning Process and if the public has any questions they should contact EDF on freephone 0800 197 6102.

On 18 November 2020, EDF launched a 30-day public consultation with the publication of a 174-page consultation document on proposed changes to its recent planning application for SZC.  The document can be viewed here:     The public has until 18 December to provide their feedback on these proposed changes.

Letter from 54 Town & Parish Councils regarding Sizewell C

In response to a letter to EDF (dated 9 April) from Suffolk County Council and East Suffolk Council concerning its Development Consent Order (DCO) application for Sizewell C, a joint letter from 54 Town and Parish Councils, including Melton Parish Council, was sent to the Council leaders on 11 May. The key message was that examination of the planning application must be in public and not be digital-only. A copy of the letter is available to read as a PDF:

Sizewell C – Application for a Development Consent Order

On 3 April 2020, EDF wrote to Parish Councils confirming its decision to defer, by a few weeks, the submission of its application for a Development Consent Order (DCO) to build Sizewell C. EDF says that this will allow everyone more time to read the documents through the summer months and then register their interest and submit their views for the public examination phase of the DCO process. EDF is liaising with the Planning Inspectorate to discuss how normal arrangements can be flexed so that communities are not disadvantaged by the current difficult circumstances.

EDF Energy will now be running a Stage 4 public consultation exercise starting on 18 July 2019 and running until 27 September 2019. This will include a drop-in session at Woodbridge Community Hall on 26 July from 2pm to 8pm.

Sizewell C Stage 3 public consultation began on 4 January 2019 and ran to 29 March 2019. The new station would be located to the north of Sizewell B, and would have two reactors capable of generating enough low carbon electricity to supply around 6 million homes for 60 years.
