Melton Playing Field Car Park – Temporary Closure

The tennis court fencing is being replaced at the end of March. As a result, we are having to close the car park from

8pm on the 23rd March until 7am on 30th March

If the construction finishes ahead of schedule the car park will be opened earlier.

The path between the hedge and the tennis courts will also be fenced off during the construction period.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Have your say and help shape the future of open spaces in East Suffolk

East Suffolk Council is currently carrying out research to help shape the future of open spaces and sports facilities in the District. This includes parks, play areas, allotments, cemeteries, playing pitches (such as football, rugby, cricket, bowls and tennis) and indoor facilities (such as sports halls and swimming pools).

The aim of the consultation is to identify priorities and allocate resources across council-owned and managed open spaces in the future, while at the same time conserving and enhancing them to maximise community benefit.

New Pavilion – design available for comment

Following a number of public consultations, a design has been created for a new Pavilion to replace the existing building at the Melton Road Recreation Ground. The current building is no longer fit for purpose and is over 70 years old.

The new design includes a public toilet, ability for a pop-up café to operate, shelter for spectators, a flexible community space and storage. All these facilities were supported by responses to the consultation process. The construction will be brick, weatherboarding and a pantile roof.

Melton Parish Council invites residents to submit any comments they may have on these proposals. You can phone, email or write to the office:

The consultation finishes on Friday 22nd January 2021. It is hoped that work will commence summer 2021.
